Seasonal Guide to the Best Time to Travel to Savannah, GA

Given our area’s mild winters and year-round beauty, the term “best time to visit” is inherently subjective. Savannah is not exclusively a spring and summertime destination, although those are the most popular times to visit. We ideally want all of our guests to experience each season in Savannah. We love calling this enchanting place home and want you to consider it your second home. So, we’ve compiled some of the most information regarding vacation planning by season.

Savannah in the Winter

Weather

Visitors from up North will love Savannah, Georgia’s, winter weather. From December through February, highs range from the low to mid-60s and lows range from the low to mid-40s. On average, Savannah experiences about six days of rain per month during the winter. Be sure to pack a fleece jacket and a couple of cardigans, but you can leave the winter coat at home!

The Main Attraction

In most areas, events and festivals are prevalent throughout the spring and summer when the weather is warmer. However, due to our temper-weather winter climate, Savannah boats fun events and festivals all year! Get outside during the Savannah Bike Ride and Walk. This event is a great way to enjoy the weather, get some exercise, and see our beautiful area. Or, indulge in Savannah’s dining scene during Savannah Winter Restaurant Week.

Dining

On those days when dips down into the low 40s, cozy up with a piping cup of coffee or hot chocolate from Mirabelle Cafe. This cafe serves authentic Belgian waffles as well as a variety of espresso and coffee beverages. Mirabelle’s is only a seven-minute walk from our inn, so you can easily get your caffeine fix any time of day!

March through May is a beautiful time to visit Savannah. While the high temperatures vary about 15 degrees, the weather still remains mild. Spring in Savannah boasts high temperatures from 70 to 84 degrees and lows range from 50 to 65 degrees. Be sure to check the weather closer to the date of your Savannah, Georgia, getaway so you can pack accordingly!

Spring in Savannah calls for all types of celebrations! No matter what time you visit our area from March to May, you’ll always find something unique and fun to do. Visit in March to experience St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah. Our city is one of the top St. Patrick’s Day destinations in the country. Even Southern Living agrees! If St. Patrick’s Day isn’t your thing, or you can’t make it then, consider visiting Savannah in April for the Savannah Music Festival. This festival has been running for 30 years and features several genres of music. Be a part of something bigger than just a musical performance when you attend this event. The SMF mission statement is as follows, “…dedicated to presenting world-class celebrations of the musical arts by creating timeless and adventurous productions that stimulate arts education, foster economic growth, and unite artists and audiences in Savannah.”

Even local museums partake in the spring festivities! The Davenport House Museum hosts Tea in the Garden every Thursday and Friday during the month of May.
